Ramblings About My Blog

Blog Ramblings

I have had a hard time keeping this blog updated more recently. It’s not that I have a lack of things to say or write about. In fact, quite the opposite. I still need to finish the last of my Christmas posts for my family posterity’s sake, I have yet to talk about our move and adjusting to a new but easier life in that regard, new exciting career paths, the kid’s 2-year update (we made it!), and a slew of other things in between!

I go through my days and am constantly adding to my list of blog posts I’d like to start or subjects I’d like to explore to maybe think about writing more meaningful content for the blog. All day long. It’s just by the time my 12 hour corporate day ends and then my few hours I get with my kid, and then the hour or so I get with the Count to catch up on our maybe one tv show at night— by the time I get to sit here with my laptop with my thoughts, they’re all gone. They’ve left the building so to speak. All the creative juices and inspiration that I had during the day is just flat by the end and I just don’t know where to start. I ask myself, do people really want to hear what I have to say? Do they really want to read another post about my family or my trip from 3 years ago? Then I find myself preferring to just close up the laptop and lose myself in Pinterest on my phone until I fall asleep.

I guess I don’t know where this blog is going and I never really did, but I still plan on writing. Whether it’s regular or not or whether it takes me 2 more years to finish writing about our trip to Europe, I’m still here. Our lives are sure hectic, although they are leveling out a little more with the help of my wonderful family, I hope my blog will just always be one of those things that is there for me when I need it but isn’t a source of pressure or stress when I can’t devote more time than I currently have to give it.

Until then, I wanted to share 2 blogs with you that are really special to me and which do have lots of great things to talk about:

The first one is a very good friend of mine’s about conquering 30 of her life’s biggest goals as she turned 30. She’s got big plans and I love following along. Plus, she’s an excellent writer and someone I really look up to in many ways. She also blogs about the traveling she does and lots of book reviews (I wish I could read as much as she does!). As a side, she’s on an 8 week work trip to Belfast, Ireland so her blog is going to have a touch of that and she’s doing a little micro-blog about that as well for people from her company.

The other is my life long friend’s blog about her adventures living in Okinawa, Japan. Her blog is also  an ode to her love of photography and food. Check it out!

NaBloPoMo Roundup

I posted 20 times last month. More than any month in the history of this blog. So, while I wasn’t successful in posting everyday, I was successful in hitting a record for myself, and THAT was a success in my book.

NaBloPoMo Update

So, I haven’t had my computer in 2 days, which is why I haven’t had a post since Friday. We had a family party for my niece on Saturday and I took my computer to my parents’ while Finn napped and left it there! So, I’m doing my best to update this from my phone!

I’m enjoying NaBloPoMo because it gives me a goal, something I have to accomplish every day. At the same time, I’m also wondering at this point what the heck was I thinking?!? I am FAR too busy to be blogging everyday, which is why I never did that in the first place, blogging isn’t my job like so many lucky other people, and I’m in the middle of trying to sell a house!

Being that said, I am going to keep at this. I know I’m behind from yesterday and owe myself an extra post, but everything aside, I’m still enjoying and liking seeing my blog fill up with posts. :)

You’ll have to put up with me filling up your feed for a couple more weeks!

NaBloPoMo November 2013

This is post #9 of NaBloPoMo.

National Blog Posting Month is an annual event that takes place each November where bloggers commit to writing everyday in November.

This morning I made a spur of the moment decision to sign up for National Blog Posting Month (aka NaBloPoMo). Much like NaNoWriMo, but for bloggers. It’s an annual event that takes place each November where bloggers commit to writing everyday in November. What did I just do? I fail at almost every goal I set for myself… but after talking with my husband, we came up with a list of posts and I felt like I may be able to do this.

I really enjoy my blog but something I struggle with is posting regularly. Sometimes I’ll find a lot of time on a weekend day and I’ll write 3 or 4 posts all in one day, instead of writing them and then scheduling them to be posted throughout the week, something I definitely should be doing from what I’ve read about how other bloggers do it. But alas, this is just my personal blog about little ol’ me, The Count, and our little one, so it isn’t any big operation and I’m definitely not making any money! ;)

I did only 9 posts last month… let’s see if I can add 19 more. This was just a goal I decided to set for myself and I’m determined!

Hello 2013

cookie

My goal was to have this shiny new blog up and running by the new year and I was going to start checking things off of my list as far as what my new blog was going to be about, what the new year had in store, and basically what the new me was going to be about. Buuuuut that didn’t happen. Had some major road blocks as far as the blog was concerned, life had a few stumbles already (I know!), and so here we are now 23 days late and the blog is still a work in progress. Which is just fitting for what I’m all about and what this blog is all about. Progress. And now, hopefully maintenance.

Last year was a heck of a year. It was a wonderful year in one aspect as we added to our family and have this amazing little person that we get to share this big odd world with. But it was also a year filled with so many trials. Three surgeries for me, one that I haven’t even gone into on the blog and I’m not totally ready to hash out in words yet. I can talk about it pretty openly with just about anybody but found when it came to writing about it, I’m just not ready. So, yeah – heck of a heck of a year. One that I am so thankful for but at the same time so very thankful that it is behind me.

And so we move on to progress. To 2013. The Count and I have so many plans for this year. And it’s already started out with a bang which I’ll go into in a later post (sorry to be so elusive?). This year we’re focusing on fixing up our house. We bought this house in 2010 and other than the Kid’s nursery which we lovingly spent so much time on in 2011 and 2012, the rest of the house has been neglected and we’d like to fix that. So our hopes are that this blog will keep us accountable on that quest and give us some inspiration as we share it with others. And of course we’ll still be sharing lots of the Kid and other snippets of our lives along the way.

And so, goodbye 2012, we won’t miss you. And hello, 2013, it is nice to meet you! Stay awhile, won’t you?

Where Did the Rest of the Europe Posts Go?

Yeah… about that.  It was a lot of work.  I mean, A LOT.  And even more frustration because ultimately, I don’t love WordPress.  I know I could probably really customize it with add-ons and things like that, but it’s just such a pain.  I want something that is easy to plop photos in, maybe even pre-made layouts for me to choose where I just insert the photos, write my text, and the rest is taken care of.  But I don’t know how to do that or even IF I can with WordPress.  So, I’ve given up on any more long blog posts about Europe.  As you can see, even my last 2 posts about baby, I can’t even get my photos to be centered.  It says they are when I insert the photos, but when I publish, they are left-aligned.  I hate it.  But whatever, not going to stress about it, it is what it is, and very few people read this, and the ones that do I am sure will forgive my imperfect blog.  I hope to definitely be posting about Europe in the coming months, even years… but blogging about each day just became too much for me.  Which I’m sad about because I really enjoyed the “Reflections/Impressions” posts that I did about each city because they really took me back.  And I would have loved to share the food we ate (like I did for London).  Luckily, I also did the same in a paper journal while I was in Europe so I’ll still have them for myself!  :)

In Review

After looking over the last month or so of my posts I found that I start almost every one with “So” or “Well”.  This is not acceptable.  See, I’m learning and improving on my writing everyday!  With that, my goal is to cleanse myself of this bad monotonous habit and not write like I’m in the middle of a conversation with somebody on every post.  Although, in my defense I probably AM in the middle of a conversation with myself so it only naturally transpires in my writing. *wink wink*

Problem Fixed!

So, I’ve completely revamped our website and found an awesome theme that Dan really liked.  I’ve been working all day on this site to perfect it.  It’s not “quite” there but it’s almost!  I added our “bios” at the top and then some different albums of photos for things we have done this year.  What fun!  I was having a major problem with WordPress this week of my pages not showing up, but I figured it out.  Everything’s cool.  I plan on adding more under the “About Us” section, this was just stuff left over from our wedding website and then more under “Our Family” where we will have stuff on our people families, not just our kiddos!

Blog Re-design

So, I was getting a little tired of the palm tree design that I had for the last 8 months, so I’ve changed it up a bit!  I’m not completely happy with this one yet, as I need to find a way to change the buttons on it.  But it will suffice for now.  It looks outdoorsy, which suits our current lifestyle!  I’ve added like, “page tags” on most of our blogs so that you get the first paragraph or 2 on the main page of the blog and then have to click on “Read the rest of this story” or “Continue Reading” to see the rest, so don’t miss that peoples!  You may be missing out on important stuff.  I just figure, sometimes I write a lot and go on and on and on and maybe it’s overwhelming!  So, you get a tidbit and if you want more you have to clicky clicky!  Ok, back to work.

One More Thing…

The best part about this new blog site is you can actually comment on my blog posts now by clicking on that square tab to the left of the blog right underneath the date.  Just click on the number and you can comment to us and stuff!
